A New Direction

For more than twenty years, I have introduced myself as a chiropractor.

While that will always be an important part of who I am, I’ve realised it no longer tells the whole story.

Over the past two decades, I have had the privilege of meeting thousands of patients. Every consultation has taught me something—not only about pain, movement, and recovery, but about people. I’ve listened to fears, celebrated victories, shared disappointments, and watched individuals regain confidence in their bodies.

Yet throughout those years, one question has quietly followed me home at the end of almost every working day……

Why are so many people confused about their health?

We have access to more information than at any other time in history, yet many people feel more uncertain than ever. Every day we are presented with opinions, headlines, advertisements, expert advice, social media posts, and competing health claims. Knowing what to believe has become increasingly difficult.

As my curiosity grew, I found myself reading more widely and  exploring subjects far beyond chiropractic. I started asking questions that often led me down fascinating rabbit holes. which sometimes confirmed what I thought I knew,  and other times they completely changed my perspective.

One lesson has remained constant.

The most valuable thing I can offer people is not simply a treatment.

It is understanding.

That realisation has led me to an important decision.

Over the next few years, this website will gradually evolve from being primarily a chiropractic website into something much broader. It will evolve in a new direction.

My goal is to create a place where curious people can come to explore health together.

We’ll still talk about back pain, neck pain, headaches, posture, exercise, and movement. Those subjects remain close to my heart and will continue to be an important part of what I do.

But we’ll also explore much bigger questions.

How do we stay healthy as we age?

Why do some people recover more quickly than others?

What roles do sleep, nutrition, movement, stress, and relationships play in our well-being?

How do we make sense of conflicting health information?

How do we become better thinkers about our own health?

Most importantly…

How do we take greater ownership of our lives?

If you’ve followed my writing for a while, you’ll know I occasionally disappear down unusual rabbit holes. I ask questions. I read. I compare ideas. Sometimes I change my mind. I expect that will continue.

My commitment is not to defend a particular narrative.

My commitment is to remain curious, to continue learning, and to share what I discover with honesty and integrity.

I won’t ask you to agree with everything I write. In fact, I hope you won’t.

What I hope for is that each article leaves you with a better question than the one you started with, because I believe curiosity is one of the most powerful tools we possess.

When we stop asking questions, we stop growing.

When we become afraid to examine our assumptions, we stop learning.

Real progress begins with the courage to explore ideas thoughtfully, weigh evidence carefully, recognise uncertainty where it exists, and remain open to learning and that philosophy will shape everything I create from this point forward.

You will see more educational articles, storytelling and humour,  exploration, discussions that connect health with everyday life, and, I hope, meaningful conversations that encourage us all to think a little more deeply.

This isn’t a sudden change of direction.

Looking back, I think it has been developing for years.

Changing my website to DrRonVanAs.com was one step in the new direction.

Writing about my travel adventures, the absurdities of bureaucracy, and the humour hidden in everyday life was another.

Those stories reminded me of something important.

People don’t just connect with information.

They connect with people.

So this website is no longer simply about what I do, but rather about who I am becoming.

My mission is simple.

To help people understand their bodies, think critically about health, and make informed decisions that lead to healthier, more active, and more independent lives.

If that journey resonates with you, I’d love for you to come along.

This is only the beginning.

Welcome to the next chapter.
