About Dr Ron Van As

A Lifetime of Health, Adventure and Stories

For more than two decades, I have worked as a chiropractor, helping people move better, recover from injury and understand their health more deeply.

But chiropractic has never been the whole story.

Long before becoming a healthcare professional, I was driven by curiosity and a desire to explore the world. That curiosity has taken me through more than seventy countries, across oceans as a sailor, beneath the surface as a diving instructor, into the mountains as a hiker, and now onto the roads of Africa with Tau, my overland Toyota Hilux.

Over the years I realised something important.

Health, travel and adventure are not separate parts of life—they all teach us how to become more resilient, adaptable and appreciative of the world around us.

That philosophy has become the foundation of everything I do today.

A New Direction

Three Pillars

Health

For over twenty years I have been privileged to help thousands of people understand pain, movement and recovery. My approach has always been to look beyond symptoms and help people build healthier, more resilient lives.

Adventure

Travel has shaped my perspective more than almost anything else. Every country, every culture and every challenge has reinforced the idea that growth begins when we step outside what is familiar.

Stories

Some stories make us laugh. Others challenge the way we think.

Whether they come from the clinic, a remote campsite, a border crossing or a conversation with a stranger, stories have the power to connect people in ways that facts alone never can.

Through this website, my blog and Travels with Tau, I hope to share stories that educate, inspire and encourage curiosity.

My Philosophy

If you do not take the first step,

you will remain in the same place

for the rest of your life.

Travels with Tau

Travels with Tau is the next chapter.

Tau, my Toyota Hilux, is more than a vehicle. It is a companion for exploring Southern Africa and beyond, documenting remarkable places, extraordinary people and the lessons that emerge along the way.

The journey begins long before the engine starts. Planning routes, preparing the vehicle, navigating border crossings and embracing the unexpected are all part of the adventure.

Every road has a story.

Beyond the Website

When I'm not writing or travelling, you'll usually find me helping patients, exploring new ideas, hiking, photographing wildlife or planning the next expedition.

Whatever the setting, my goal remains the same:

To encourage people to move better, think differently and remain curious about the world around them.
